Do you remember the good old days? You know, the days when you’re growing up in the chastity belt of British Columbia and you have nothing to do except hang out at the corn maize (<—-haha, funny botany joke) with your friends and throw rocks in the slough behind your house next to the dairy farm. Those were the days when the local papers would come out on Wednesdays and Sundays only, and they’d interview people on the streets about the upcoming election and the women would answer, “Oh, I don’t think about that stuff. I usually let my husband decide that” (<——sad, but true story). Those were the good old days…
In retrospect, I don’t miss any of those things expect maybe the slower paced news cycle. Now, we have this ridiculous 24 hour news cycle and before we’ve entirely resolved one story, the next new story has hit the press. Why do we need to write and post about events as they are taking place? This pace is exhausting and it’s unsustainable for me. In other words, I was way too lazy to get a post ready about the Scissor Sister’s concert in Vancouver until now.
I attended the Scissor Sister’s concert with Jakke, Chrishasaflavor and djjeremy, but you already know this because they posted this almost a week ago. We were really early, so we ended up getting a great spot right next to the barrier that stops adoring fans from running up to and licking the performers. The first act was RyeRye, who was fine, but definitely not my preferred type of musician. I would have preferred an actual rye plant or maybe a turkey sandwich on rye. She wasn’t that horrible, but I really like sandwiches and plants.
Although it was still early in the night, there were already drunk messes littering the dance floor. At one point, a woman tried to climb over the barrier, but was repulsed by the security guard. Her strategy was to grab the guard’s arm and start licking it…I don’t think she lasted much longer at the show.
When the Scissor Sister’s finally showed up around 10pm, I have to admit I swooned just a little. It hadn’t dawned upon me that we were so close to Jake S, Ana M. and (my favourite) Del M. until they actually started performing. You can see how close we were by the photos I took with my camera. Jake Shears was wearing some pretty ridiculous outfits. I think I would have preferred to see him in some latex-look clothes :). I say latex-look because you would probably die from heat exhaustion if you wore latex and danced around the way Jake S. dances. Ana Matronic look fabulous as always, and Del Marquis was looking very adorable in his typical suit outfit (I would have liked to see his high trousers :p ).
The concert was pretty fun and exciting, though it’s a shame that they have to be so loud. I felt like they would have done well to turn down the instruments a lot and have the vocals stand out a little more. Personally, I like singing along with the performers, and it helps if you can actually hear their words. At one point, this lady was trying to grope/hug chrishasaflavour, which was a good chance for the rest of us to protect him by putting our arms around awkwardly (maybe we traded one problem with another?). In the end, most of my favourite songs were played with the only notable exception being “Fire with Fire”.
After the concert we headed out in search for delicious poutine (cheese curds, gravy and fries). Unfortunately the poutine place was open only from 11am to late (which is really unhelpful), so we ended up trudging out to my place where I made miso gravy poutine for the boys. I guess the food was delicious because by the time everyone was ready to disperse, it was close to 4am and all the buses were gone. We had this great idea to try to all fit into my bed. It was a bit ridiculous, but it was also a convenient excuse to cuddle up next to chrishasaflavour and jakke. Eventually, I was pushed off the bed and banished to the much more comfortable sofa. All in all, this was a really swell night.
I should mention that that day is the first time that I met Chrishasaflavour. I ended taking him for a walk around the beach that morning because of Jakke’s missing person problem. Chrishasaflavour was not quite how I expected him to be, but I’m pretty new to tumblr. First, he wasn’t drunk at all when I hung out with him, though I think I missed the night of hot messes. Second, he’s a little shorter than I imagined he would. Third (everyone likes gratuitous compliments, right?), he’s actually ridiculously adorable. So tumblrverse, meet him and prepare to have your ice cold heart melt.
YOU ALL SAW IT. I WAS ON MY BEST SEMI-SOBER BEHAVIOR IN VANCOUVER.
Also: I am adorable.
